High Frequency for at home use
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this to help treat acne in a spa setting. But just not for people to freely use at home. As estheticians, we are trained on how to use this tool, and allowing people to use it at home can just do more harm than good. WHEN OVERUSED IT CAN CAUSE HYPERPIGMENTATION AND DARK SPOTS! People tend to think that more of something will help them better than less of something, but this is not the case. You had this pimple that’s now gone, but you’re left with hyperpigmentation from zapping yourself too many times with the high frequency.
Microneedling machines for home
NO. This is a procedure that should be done in a spa only. You’re dealing with blood and needles. So yes, maybe the kit comes with sterile needles to use, but people tend to not listen to directions and choose to reuse the needles because they’re “only using it on themselves and don’t wanna buy more” This is so bad because after using it once, the needles are contaminated. They are growing bacteria and all kinds of things. If you use that again, those needles are just going right into your skin and infecting your skin deeply with whatever is on them. Not to mention, using this tool without proper training can cause scarring and a boatload of other issues.
Tinkle Razors
I get it, it’s a cheap and easy way to remove the hair on your face. BUT they harbor bacteria, cause acne, AND have even been known to cause deeper skin infections. Just don’t do it. See your skincare professional for a dermaplaning treatment instead.
Microdermabrasion Machines
Urban has so many of these posted and I’m not a fan of them. Here’s why- I know the nature of people. They try something, it makes their skin feel really good, so then they just continue to do it every freaking day until they’ve completely destroyed their skin. Microdermabrasion should only be done every 7-10 days. Otherwise you’re risking compromising your skin’s barrier. Too much exfoliating is never good for the skin and this is like exfoliation on steroids.
